Sorry i forgot to do an update - dad is doing great. I have been sitting here in his room with him and telling stories (trying to figure out which of us can tell a better story!) and seeing friends. They took out all his tubes, etc today and wanting to monitor him one more night. He will be going home tomorrow morning some time. His shoulder hurts (i know he had heart surgery, he is weird…) but other than that he is healing up good. He says hi to everyone and sends his love

Not much to update, but for those of you who are far away, I want to keep you posted. Lin is progressing well. They took his chest drainage tubes out this morning and the cathiter (sp?) comes out this afternoon. He has been sitting up and walking and they let him have a hamburger from Carl’s JR for lunch today. We are looking at bringing him home Saturday morning and then the fun begins of trying to keep him down long enough to heal! For Peggy (and any other medical people who want to know the juicy details:) )- they are giving him blood today because he is anemic and giving him insulin to regulate his blood sugar - which they will wean him off of before we leave. Normal stuff they tell me. His color is good and his spirits are up. Just resting so not much exciting to report. Once again, thank you for all your love and support.

Lin is currently sitting up in a chair and eating his supper. He is really tired, but hopefully can sleep tonight. It was a big day – today and tomorrow are the big ones and today was good. Bleeding is under control and vitals are good. Pain is livable J - easy for me to say!!! He had to walk from ICU to this room, had to make a lap around the nurses station and, as I mentioned earlier, sit in a chair for extended period of time. We have had lots of visitors which Lin loves and continues to lift his spirits. One of our good friends, Sharon, is with her mother in the hospital. Her mom is facing possible open heart surgery and asked if Lin could talk to her about what he has been through and hopefully lift her spirits – his ministry continues! (note to Mike Bailey – Sharon says hi and can still remember what you order for breakfast!) One of the things we need to remember to ask is – what is the shower cap with the water and soap on the inside – so you can wash your hair and not get anything else wet? Thank you to all of you who have stepped up and filled the gaps at home so we didn’t have to worry about anything – you are all terrific and appreciated. Once everyone felt Lin was stabilized, my folks left to head back to Cal (what a blessing to have my mommy and papa here with me!) and the kids went back to Cedar. Rachel and Kate fell asleep on the way home and, at last report, are still snoozing! What troopers my kids are – I am so proud of them and couldn’t have done it without them by my side. Travis and Graydon are looking forward to playing golf with Danny Cowan tomorrow morning while Kate drives Rachel to Las Vegas so she can get back to her school. Thank you to all the kids that did without Mrs. Drake so she could be with her family out here! We will continue to keep you posted as we all look forward to getting back to our “Normal???” life - Deb

Everyone should be happy to know that Lin has been moved from the ICU to a regular paitents room. He is in Room #233. The family just now got to go into see him so we are not sure how he is feeling yet. We will make another post when we know more. Once again we would like to thank all of you again for your love and support for Lin and his family.

We are not able to see dad for another 30 minutes but wanted to post an update from last night. He is awake, hurting, and glad to be with us. He is in a lot of pain, at this time they are only able to give him some pain medicine, so for the next day he has to bear the pain - but we know he is tough, even if he doesn’t think he can make it through the pain. I believe today they wanted to get the chest tubes out of him and they will be able to start giving him more pain medicine. As i said we have not got to see him yet so we dont know for sure, however mom was with him until late last night and they did let him out of his bed already to sit in his chair. From the past 2 surgeries and seeing him now - he is recovering even faster (as this stage). i think the recovery once at home will need some more rest than he did last time. But his coloring is great, his bleeding is under control, so many things are looking great. Thank you all again for the consistent prayers and encouragement - i am sure glad to have my daddy with us - he is so much a part of all our lives.

Hello everyone! This is Debbie writing this note. Kate has done such a terrific job so far, but I wanted to be the one to share this good news. Dr.Woodbury just met with us and did a show and tell. Kate will be posting some of the pictures on the site. Lin is out of surgery and doing well. His heart is strong and lungs and kidneys are working well. The problem was a tear in the orginal valve - which Dr Woodbury brought out for us to examine. For those who know Lin well, you know that this is the part he will really have missed! As it was, everyone checked it out appropriately and Kate took lots of pictures for Lin - so brace yourselves for the stories to come! (Travis wanted to insert here that it was the pig valve that had to be replaced - and, for those of you ready to give him a bad time, Dr. Woodbury reinforced that since all of Lin’s blood will be going through that pig’s valve it really does make him very much swine -related!) We are all excited to have this news and praise our wonderful God for holding us all in his arms through this. One more big hurdle! The next hurdles are to get the bleeding under control (the same problem we had last time) and making sure he gets back to fuctioning on his own.

Back again - in midstream of typing the nurses called the Drake famiy in to see Mr. Drake in the flesh since they have moved him into ICU for recovery. He can hear us and is wiggling around. They feel he is doing excellent and told us to go away for a couple of hours while Lin wakes up and they take him off the ventilator. He looks good athough he is fighting the ventilator like he did before - he may be fighting the memory of that time before! Anyhow, the news is great and we are so thankful that once again God has pulled him through - there must be big plans for this man’s future! I think we can all see how many lives he has touched and that he must have lots more to do! Thank you all for your love and support - it has meant the world to all of our family! We love you all so much and are excited to get back on with sharing the adventure of life with all of you! Thanks again - Deb

wow! the doctor just called for our next update - said they have him off the heart and lung machine - he is living on his own We were expecting so much longer, but what great news. They said he will be about another hour and a half and will be bringing him out into the ICU. It will take another 3+ hours after that before he is awake. but it sounds like its going great and maybe there weren’t as many complications as we anticipated?? We really dont know the details yet but we do know we are on the up hill! They said unless anything else comes up we will see the doctor in a couple hours when he is done and we will get all the juicy details of what is going on inside dads chest.

Doc is still exploring - they have him completley open up deep down i guess and are still checking things to know what exactly is going on. I asked if they are planning on doing he surgery we last talked about or if they knew and they dont yet… still exploring

The family has taken over the ICU waiting room - mom and me have blankets and pillows and are resting after a long game of mexican train dominos. We do have friends in and out and keeping us company. We are really holding up well today so far.

The doctor just called. Surgery is going well so far. He is opened up and on the bypass machine. They said they got through without too much damage to his heart. This was one of the largest worries because his heart was aheared to his sternum and there was a good chance they had to cut the heart to even get him open. I am not sure if they had to do it - but if they did, they did little damage.

Now that he is open doc is going to explore a bit to really be sure of what is going on and check everything before doing any surgery. They said they should have another update in approx an hour or so.
